Newsmakers (March 1): Toms Dominates at Accenture Match Play Championship

David Toms cruised to victory at the Accenture Match Play Championship defeating Chris DiMarco 6 and 5. The win was the largest margin of victory in the history of the event's 36-hole final at La Costa Resort.

Toms, who was a member of the 1984 AJGA All-American Team that included future PGA Tour players Bob Estes, Brian Watts, Billy Mayfair and Bob May, earned $1.3 million for claiming the title.

Toms improved his record to 18-5 in Accenture Match Play Championship and he earned the 11th victory of his PGA Tour career.


Rosales Starts Season with a Win

Jennifer Rosales started the LPGA Tour season with a win at the SBS Open at Turtle Bay in Hawaii. Rosales lead wire-to-wire and held on despite wind gusts of 30 mph throughout the final round. Rosales finished the event at 8-under-par, despite shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the final round. Her first-round 66 and second-round 69 were enough to put her in front and earn her the title.

Fellow AJGA alum Cristie Kerr finished two strokes back, tied for second place.


Joh finishes tied for 13th at Ladies Masters

Tiffany Joh

Tiffany Joh of San Diego finished tied for 13th at the Ladies European Tour ANZ Ladies Masters with a final-round 73 in Gold Coast, Australia. Joh, who has committed to play next fall at UCLA, finished with a tournament total of 7-under-par 281. Karrie Webb claimed the title at Royal Pines Resort, after carding a 67 in the final round.

Joh, a First-team Rolex Junior All-American, tied the course record with a second-round 63, which included one of the rarest shots in golf - a double eagle on her final hole of the day.


Near Miss for Na

Kevin Na made a final-round charge in Tucson, but in the end was forced to settle for second best.

Geoff Ogilvy defeated Na on the second playoff hole to claim his first PGA Tour title at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson on Feb. 27. Na fired a final-round 71 to make the playoff, but he was unable to sink an 8-foot putt to extend the contest on the second playoff hole.
