hp Boys Junior Championship Headed to Westin Innisbrook Resort

Hole Number Nine on the Copperhead Course

The AJGA will return to familiar territory this summer when Westin Innisbrook Resort plays host to the 17th annual hp Boys Junior Championship from July 28 – August 1.

The Resort hosted the AJGA’s second event in 1978 – the Association’s inaugural year – and has been the site of 16 other AJGA events over the last 25 years. The AJGA’s last visit to the Palm Harbor, Fla., Resort was in 2001, when competitors at the Rolex Tournament of Champions battled it out on Innisbrook’s Copperhead and Island Courses. The same two courses will be used for the event this summer.

Innisbrook opened in December of 1970 when the Island Golf Course officially opened. The Copperhead Course – the Resort’s premier layout – opened two years later. The PGA TOUR’s Tampa event called the Copperhead Course home from 1990-2002. The track was recently tabbed the fourth-ranked course in the state of Florida.

The hp Boys Junior Championship has amassed quite a champions’ list in its first 16 years. Current PGA TOUR stars who captured the title in their junior days include Jim Furyk, who captured the inaugural event in 1987, David Duval, Tiger Woods, and Ty Tryon, who carded three rounds of 66 or better to win the 1999 crown.

hp, an Official AJGA Sponsor, enters its first year as title sponsor of the event. The company has sponsored the hp Scholastic Junior All-America Team for the last nine years.
