AJGA's
2003 Schedule Approaches Finish Line
The
AJGAs 2003 schedule is nearing completion, as more than
70 tournaments are expected to fill the slate for the coming
year. While the final pieces are being put together, visitors
to ajga.org are now able to take a sneak peek at whats
in store for 2003.
Continuing
with tradition, the Ashworth Preseason Junior Series gets
the year started. For five straight weeks, beginning March
7-9 in Dothan, Ala., the Series will provide playing opportunities
for juniors who have not yet played in an AJGA tournament.
At
the conclusion of the Preseason, the AJGA will roll right
into the Easter Weekend lineup, with the annual tournaments
in Georgia, Texas and Arizona.
The
summer season gets under way with a Memorial Day favorite
-- the Thunderbird International Junior at Grayhawk Golf Club.
After that, the action is unrelenting. From the beginning
of June to the end of August, the summer schedule is packed
with four tournaments per week.
The
Rolex Tournament of Champions comes to the AJGAs backyard,
as the mid-summer major visits Chateau Elan Resort, where
three of the four rounds will be played at the magnificent
Legends Course.
Canon
Cup is heading to the Georgia coast, as Sea Island Golf Club,
located on St. Simons Island, plays host to the East-versus-West
rivalry.
Looking
for new cities on the tournament schedule?
Ringgold,
Ga., Pittsburgh, Pa., Tucson, Ariz., and Garland, Texas, are
first-timers for the AJGA. Also in the mix are return visits
to Austin, Texas, and Lake Geneva, Wis., -- cities where the
AJGA used to visit routinely before a brief hiatus.
The
Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series will add a trip to Ames,
Iowa, while the season-ending All-Star Championship will be
moved to Portland, Ore., over Labor Day Weekend.
The
PING Junior Solheim Cup moves to Sweden, following its successful
first year in which the United States claimed the inaugural
Cup.
Wrapping
things up will be the Ashworth Postseason Junior Season, allowing
more opportunities for first-time AJGA players. A stop in
Norman, Okla., brings this Series up to five tournaments.
Holding
with tradition, the Polo Golf Junior Classic rounds out the
year at Walt Disney World Resort.
